NYC – Give Love w/ the Yoga Aid Challenge – September 19th
Yoga Aid began in 2006 with knowledge so beautifully summed up in MC Yogi’s words: “When we live to give love, there’s no greater feeling”.
Two yoga enthusiasts; Clive and Eriko, set out to put their yoga practice into action by creating Yoga Aid: an international non-profit supported by a small group of yoga and global change advocates. Here, yoga and charity find a connection, enabling the ‘giving’ mentality cultivated in yoga practice to take action across the world in supporting a variety of charities and community projects.
We are so fortunate to be involved with this year’s event in NYC. We are so excited. It truly is amazing to be aligned with such a great cause! Check out the details below:
The action will be taking place in NYC on September 19th at the Angel Orensanz Foundation (172 Norfolk Street btw East Houston Street and Stanton Street)
:: ‘Welcome Party’ Doors + Registration open at 2pm | Yoga will start promptly at 3pm ::
What is a Yoga Aid Challenge?
Yoga Aid Challenges are lead by a series of teachers, allowing participants to experience a range of different styles in a celebratory atmosphere. The Challenge is the way this giving community comes together; through special, two hour yoga practices held in hundreds of locations worldwide. The Challenge is lead by a series of 12 teachers, many of whom are internationally renowned. Hundreds of yogis take part in these unique events in every location, raising money along the way for selected charity partners.
Attendance is free, making the events inclusive celebrations of community and global awareness. By registering, participants receive an online fundraising page through which they can help to raise funds for local and international charity partners. Accounting for the success of the Challenges, Yoga Aid’s Charity Director, Mayumi Staley, says there is a natural correlation between yoga and giving to others: “The Yoga Aid Challenge builds upon the nature of yogis; allowing them to exercise philosophies they learn in class and put them into action in the world.”
The 2010 Yoga Aid Challenge in celebration of the United Nations’ International Day of Peace will take place on Sunday, September 19th from 2pm–5pm at the Angel Orensanz Foundation in New York City. There will be twelve of the most notable teachers committing 20 minutes each to the event, teaching a segment of the 108 sun salutations. Confirmed teachers include: Elena Brower, Kristi Clark, Jeffrey Duval, Paige Elenson, Dana Flynn, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, April Martucci, Dharma Mittra, Sadie Nardini, Simon Park, Donna Rubin, and Dechen Thurman.
Yoga Aid has developed an online fundraising vehicle hosted on the Yoga Aid website (www.yogaaid.com), which is easy to use, secure, and ensures 100% of donations go straight to charity. All expenses are supported privately: Yoga Aid takes no deductions from any donations for the running of the organization or events.
Who do we support?
