Event Information

Developed by Kimberly Moon, owner and founder of Bella Luna Yoga, the conference’s mission is to “celebrate a global, ever-expanding yoga consciousness.”

The event will take place at the beautiful Hilton Rose Hall in Montego Bay. The conference lineup includes workshops for all abilities with world-class instructors including Seane Corn, Sharon McConnell-Feanny, Nadine McNeil, Simon Park, Gaia Budhai, Stacey Shanks, Jenny Sauer-Klein, Jason Nemer, Sadie Nardini and Toni Bergins. Topics range from Vinyasa Flow and Journey Dance to Core Strength and Kudalini. The conference will offer two 2.5-hour sessions each day with opportunities for morning meditation and Noon yoga on the beach.

A unique element to this conference is the outreach to the community, and country, where the conference is being hosted. In partnership with Shakti Mind Body Fitness in Kingston, Jamaica, The Caribbean Yoga Conference is pleased to offer The Shakti Love Scholarship. Through The Shakti Love Scholarship, Jamaican youth councilors, social workers, and teachers are invited to bring their passion, knowledge and curiosity to the conference at absolutely no cost. Govindas and Radha are California-based bhakti yogis, kirtan singers, and as their spiritual names suggest – “servants of the divine”. About the Album

Govindas & Radha’s evolution as bhaktis/chant artists is very apparent here. Attuned to each other musically more than ever, their musical gifts have deepened and are sweetly realized here. There is a beautiful interplay of the masculine and feminine as the lovers/husband and wife sing back and forth to each other, merging into a divine union of (song in) mantra, elevating and transcending personal love to universal love. “Light Inside You” could be likened to the clarion call “I See You” from the movie “Avatar” as the couple invites us to open and awaken our devotional hearts thru sacred song/mantra….

One of the chants that best exemplifies this divine merging is “Hare Krishna/Radhe”. Radha’s gorgeous vocals softly begin intoning the maha mantra, with sitar and flute providing a gentle backdrop, the chant builds slowly in intensity. Govindas’s emotive voice takes the lead while Radha responds soulfully to his strong masculine vocals, the intensity increases stoked by Amit Choubey on tabla (all with a tender background vocals by Govindas counterpointing his strong lead) the musical climax is reached as the lovers harmonize gorgeously and Radha cracks our hearts open as the chant ends in blissful notes.

The interplay and merging of the masculine and feminine is also sweetly realized on the appealing “Nataraj”. Radha really shines here, her lead vocals are as clear and pure as a mountain lake, Govindas brings in loving harmonies whilst Milind Sheorey’s flute playing swirls around the stripped down guitar and kartal playing

Another favorite track is  “Monkey Temple Chalesa” a loving ode to the Monkey god Hanuman. With an engaging melody and fun tempo, Govindas chants positively brimming with lightness and reverence. Radha brings in sweet harmonies matching Govindas, the sound is nicely raw with just right peaks and valleys in the chant.

“OM Narayani” is trance ‘n dance-y, featuring the sweetly funky sounds of classical sitar and the duos voices chanting softly together, their voices complimenting each other beautifully*. Drifting into the river of sound, the entrancing and ecstatic backing vocals by renowned classical Indian singer (and sitar) player Bhupal Panshikar evokes the village feel of ancient India adding depth and a rich context.

Recorded in Bombay, Govindas & Radha have assembled a cast of talented classical Indian musicians on tabla, sitar, flute and backing vocals. The sitar adds a funky yet classical feel to the musical journey. Milind Sheorey’s mesmerizing flute weaves brightly/entrancingly through each track providing a through line advancing the narrative in the direction of the divine much as gopis dancing behind a radiant Krishna… I love the pace of this CD, the tempo is just right. Its soothing, uplifting,  raw and production notes are just right…

A radiant expression of the bhakti yoga (the yoga of love and devotion) that Govindas & Radha embody and teach, “Light Inside You” is as ideal for an asana practice as it is to chant along with in the car or at home.

The IDentity festival is a world within itself with plenty to look at, do, hear and see.

In the heartbeat of it all is the Skullcandy Main Stage. This sensory extravaganza features unparalleled production and is headlined by international house hero, Kaskade. An incomparable lineup of the hottest names in electronic music will take turns joining Kaskade for the evening including Pretty Lights, Disco Biscuits, Rusko, Avicii, Chuckie, Booka Shade, Pete Tong, Modeselektor, Jessie and the Toy Boys with special guests still being announced.

Rockstar Energy Drink’s Dim Mak Festival Stage, a wide open outer festival area, complements the size, production and lineup of the Skullcandy Main Stage. The Rockstar Energy Drinks Dim Mak Festival Stage is headlined by none other than Dim Mak’s commander-in-chief, Steve Aoki. By his side is a superstar mix and match of DJ Shadow, Etienne De Crecy, The Crystal Method, Nero, Holy Ghost!, Datsik, Hercules and the Love Affair, Le Castle Vania, Afrobeta, The Eye and Doorly with special guests still hopping on.

In addition to the Rockstar Energy Drinks Dim Mak Festival Stage, there will also be the Advent Stage featuring an amazing mix of underground DJs Steve Lawler, Manufactured Superstars, White Shadow, LA Riots, FIGO Aeroplane, Nervo, RioTGeaR, Chad Hugo, and Marshall Barnes.

The festival area itself is a huge, open and exciting space with plenty of room for relaxing, mingling, eating, drinking and of course dancing.

About The Presenters

Simon Park

Simon Park began his Yoga journey 15 years ago with Shiva Rea in the World Arts and Cultures Department at UCLA. Fast forward to the present where he was chosen by Yoga Journal as ” one of the most influential and gifted… next generation of Yoga teachers”.  He weaves inspiration and in-depth experience from many styles into his teaching; Vinyasa, Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Thai Massage.  His core teachers; Shiva Rea, Maty Ezraty, Joan White and Dharma Mittra, are master teachers in their respective fields. Based in Philadelphia, Simon travels worldwide to share Prana Flow Yoga; the amazing Vinyasa style of Shiva Rea.

Ian Hyman (DJ Hyfi)

DJ Hyfi is a Philly based DJ who has taken his art into the yoga studio to create a deep fusion of sound and movement. He spends most of his time on the road spinning for workshops, festivals and conferences around the nation, striving to create a fresh experience for people who love yoga. Finding inspiration from life on the road and the interesting collection of characters along the way, he shares his perspective on yoga through his turntables. Ian’s DJ mixes are infused with a wide range of soulful electronic music, from deep ambient tunes to ecstatic rhythms of Jungle/DnB.

Jim Beckwith

Jim Beckwith, a.k.a. Hanuman Das, plays live music for yoga across the nation, has played at several Yoga Journal Conferences and accompanied kirtan artists such as Jai Uttal, Bhagavan Das and David Newman. Interpreting yoga classes and events with an array of exotic instruments including sitar, flutes, and various exotic percussion and striking vocals orchestrated in the moment…

Never distracting, a sonic tapestry is created with the help of modern technology to support the movement of yoga, from quiet sitar to rockin’ percussion – composing for the class to fit each moment and each instructor’s style,  resulting in a bonus of inspiration and joy for all!
